IQ scores for freshman students at two colleges (College A and College B) were analyzed and resulted in the following Five Numer Summaries:
College A:
Minimum 101 Q1 105 Median 115 Q3 120 Maximum 140
College B:
Minimum 99 Q1 105 Median 120 Q3 135 Maxximum 145
Which college has the greater range of IQ scores?
Which college has the smaller percentage of students with IQs of 115 or higher?
Which college has the greater percentage of students with IQs of 110 or higher?
Ans:
1)Range=maximum-minimum
Range for college A=140-101=39
Range for college B=145-99=46
So,college B has greater range of IQ scores.
2)For college A,median=115,so 50% of students have IQs of 115 or higher.
For college B,median=120 i.e. 115 is lower than median,so it means that more than 50% of the students have IQs of 115 or higher.
So,college A has the smaller percentage of students with IQs of 115 or higher.
3)College B has the greater percentage of students with IQs of 110 or higher(as m)edian,Q3 are higher for college B)
