At one time, it was said that the average family has 2.4 children. Can you think of another example of approximating a discrete variable with a continuous number?

Given that the average family has 2.4 children.
In case of binomial distribution there are two parameters n and p
where n is number of trials.
p is probability of success.
n is any natural number but p is probability integer which is lies between 0 and 1.
p can take any value between 0 and 1 that is integer.
For example. In each of 4 races, the Democrats have a 60% chance of winning. Assuming that the races are independent of each other.
Here n is number of races = 4
probability of winning (p) = 60% = 0.60
We can see here p is continous number with discrete variable is X be the number of races the Democrats win.
