Answer #1

Data from senior college students who have taken at least one statistics class.

Since the university would like to know how their undergraduate students feel about taking a statistics class for the first time, therefore their sample should be of the students who have already taken the statistics class so they would have some base of comparison. To gain insights it is better to collect information from senior college students who have taken at least one statistics class as they have gone through the experience of studying for it. Just taking data from newly registered students would not be practical.

Professor Whyte would like to determine how students feel about the implementation of a new fee that all students in the university are required to pay. She decides to sample 40 students. She assigns a number (between 1 and 200 inclusive) to all 200 students in her class such that no student has the same number. Then, she uses Excel to randomly choose 40 numbers between 1 and 200 (no repeated numbers). (a) Is this an example of a simple...
