There are 2 groups, treatment group and control group. Treatment group receives a 3-hour trivia game night every Friday for 16 weeks. The control group receives no trivia games. Identify the study design, the independent and dependent variable(s), covariate (if appropriate), and appropriate statistical test for data analysis.

Answer #1

The study design is a randomized controlled trial study where the researcher forms two groups and randomly assign the participants to one of the two groups. The two groups are independent of each other. One group is a treatment group where it receives a 3-hour trivia game night every Friday for 16 weeks while other is a control group which does not receive any trivia.

Independent variable: Trivia received (Two levels - Yes and No)

Dependent variable - Intelligence measured by IQ test

Appropriate statistical test - As there are two independent groups and we need to check the difference in the average of the groups, we will use an independent samples t-test for the same.
