COME UP WITH A PROBLEM FOR YOUR CLASSMATES TO SOLVE INVOLVING THE ADDITION RULE, MULTIPLICATION RULE, PERMUTATIONS (WITH OR WITHOUT REPLACEMENT), OR COMBINATIONS (WITH OR WITHOUT REPLACEMENT). HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM YOU POST IS ALSO ONE OF YOUR HOMEWORK PROBLEMS AND YOU MUST GIVE ITS PROBLEM TYPE AND A CORRECT SOLUTION THERE. FOR "REVIEWS" SOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF TWO (2) CLASSMATES FIRST TELLING WHICH TYPE PROBLEM IT IS (E.G., ADDITION RULE), THEN SHOWING YOUR WORK WITH YOUR ANSWER (CORRECT ANSWERS TO BE PROVIDED NEXT WEEK: WEEK 4).

PROBLEM FOR REVIEW:

Problem type: Application of Multiplication theorm of probability

Statement of Multiplication Theorem of Probability:

This is also called Theorem of Compound Probability.

It states that the probability of simultaneous occurrence of two events A and B is equal to:
(i) the product of the probability of the event A and the conditional probability of B assuming that A has already occurred

(ii) the product of the probability of the event B and the conditional probability of A given that B has already occurred.

PROBLEM:

A bag contains 4 white balls and 5 blue balls. We draw 2 balls from the bag one by one without replacement. Find the probability of getting both balls white.

SOLUTION:

Lt

A = event that first ball is whilte

B =event that the second ball is white

P(A) = 4/9

Since the events A and B are dependent since the draw is without replacement.

So,

P(B/A) = 3/8

So,

Solve the following problem using the MATLAB environment Write a function [approx_root, num_its] = bisection(f,a,b,tol) that implements the bisection method. You function should take as input 4 arguments with the last argument being optional, i.e, if the user does not provide the accuracy tol use a default of 1.0e-6 (use varargin to attain this). Your function should output the approximate root, approx_root and the number of iterations it took to attain the root, num_its. However, if the user calls the...
