Question

What is the decision at a 0.05 level of significance for each of the following tests?...

What is the decision at a 0.05 level of significance for each of the following tests? Hint: Find the critical value for each test; then make a decision. (Round your critical values to two decimal places.)

Part (a) F(3, 26) = 3.04

Fcrit =

Retain the null hypothesis.

Reject the null hypothesis.

Part (b) F(5, 15) = 2.73

Fcrit =

Retain the null hypothesis.

Reject the null hypothesis.

Part (c) F(2, 13) = 3.71

Fcrit =

Retain the null hypothesis.

Reject the null hypothesis.

We can either use technology of excel function FINV(Alpha,df1,df2) to get the critical values. Here Alpha = 0.05.

The Decision rule is that if F observed is > Fcritical, Then Reject the null hypothesis, else Retain the null hypothesis.

(a) F observed (3,26) = 3.04

df1 = 3, df2 = 26.

Therefore Fcritical = 2.98

Since Fobserved (3.04) > Fcritical (2.98)

Reject the Null Hypothesis

(b) F observed (5,15) = 2.73

df1 = 5, df2 = 15.

Therefore Fcritical = 2.90

Since Fobserved (2.73) < Fcritical (2.90)

Retain the Null Hypothesis

(c) F observed (2,13) = 3.71

df1 = 2, df2 = 13.

Therefore Fcritical = 3.81

Since Fobserved (3.71) < Fcritical (3.81)

Retain the Null Hypothesis__________________________________________________________________
