The following data were collected in an experiment designed to investigate the impact of different positions of the mother on fetal heart rate. Fetal heart rate is measured by ultrasound in beats per minute. The study included 20 women who were assigned to one position and had the fetal heart rate measured in that position. Each woman was between 28-32 weeks gestation. The data are shown below.

Is there a significant difference in mean fetal heart rates by position? Run the test at a 5% level of significance. Give each of the following to receive full credit: 1) the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses; 2) the appropriate test; 3) the decision rule; 4) the calculation of the test statistic; and 5) your conclusion including a comparison to alpha or the critical value. You MUST show your work to receive full credit. Partial credit is available.

Answer #1

Answer :-

We find ANOVA using MINITAB:-

STEPS:-

1. Enter Data in worksheet

2. Go to Stat -> ANOVA -> One-Way( Unstacked)

3. Select all responces in Responces (in separate columns).

4. Click OK. Then you will get Result.

Result:-

Answer :-

1. Hypothesis:-

2.The Appropriate Test is ANOVA test.

3. Decision Rule:- F cal > F critical , then we reject H0.

df1 = 3 , df2 = 16

F critical = F0.05 (3, 16) = 3.239 (From F table)

4. Test Statistics

F cal = 4.35 (from above ANOVA table)

5. Since F cal = 4.35 > F critical = 3.239

Hence we reject null hypothesis.

There is a significant difference in mean fetal heart rates by position.
