Write the word or phrase that best completes each statement or answers the   question.

Test the given claim by using the critical value method of testing   hypotheses

A researcher claims that the amounts of acetaminophen in a certain brand of cold tablets have a mean different from the 600 mg stated by the manufacturer. Using a significance level of 0.05, test this claim. The mean acetaminophen content for a random sample of 34 tablets was 603.2 mg with a standard deviation of 6.4 mg.

Answer #1

Below are the null and alternative Hypothesis,
Null Hypothesis, H0: μ = 600
Alternative Hypothesis, Ha: μ ≠ 600

Rejection Region
This is two tailed test, for α = 0.05 and df = 33
Critical value of t are -2.035 and 2.035.
Hence reject H0 if t < -2.035 or t > 2.035

Test statistic,
t = (xbar - mu)/(s/sqrt(n))
t = (603.2 - 600)/(6.4/sqrt(34))
t = 2.915

reject the null hypothesis.

There is sufficient evidence to conclude that the amounts of acetaminophen in a certain brand of cold tablets have a mean different from the 600

SHORT ANSWER. Write the word or phrase that best completes each statement or answers the question. Assume that a simple random sample has been selected from a normally distributed population and test the given claim. Use either the traditional method or P-value method as indicated. (1 point) For each problem, select the best response. (a) The nicotine content in cigarettes of a certain brand is normally distributed with mean (in milligrams) μμ and standard deviationσ=0.1σ=0.1. The brand advertises that the mean nicotine content of their cigarettes is 1.5, but you believe that the mean nicotine content is actually higher than advertised. To explore this, you test the hypotheses H0:μ=1.5H0:μ=1.5, Ha:μ>1.5Ha:μ>1.5 and you obtain a P-value of 0.052. Which of the following is true? A. There...
