A new bowler bowled a strike 20% of the time she bowls a frame, but now she thinks that she increased the probability. This is her hypothesis: H(0) : π = .2 H(a) : π > .2 where π is the proportion of strikes she bowls. She bowls 120 frames and achieves 28 strikes. Find the test statistic.

Separately, she bowls 90 times and achieves 43 strikes. The hypothesis here is H(0) : π = .6 H(a) : π < .6 Find the test statistic.

Answer #1

1) p = 0.2

p^ = 28/120 = 0.233

test statistic

                   = 0.913

2) p = 0.6

p^ = 43 / 90

test statistic

                   = -2.367

S-adenosyl methionine (SAM-e) is a naturally occurring compound in human cells that is thought to have an effect on depression symptoms. Suppose that a researcher is interested in testing SAM-e on patients who are struggling with cancer. She obtains a sample of n = 25 patients and asks each person to take the suggested dosage each day for 4 weeks. At the end of the 4-week period, each individual takes the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), which is a 21-item, multiple-choice...
