Among workers who left, 30% were dissatisfied with salary. 20% left because of work assignments. 12% indicated dissatisfaction with both (their salary and work assignments). Find the probability that a worker left because of either salary or work assignment issue
a. 0.5 b. 0.88 c. 0.12 d. 0.38
Solution:- Given that 30%=0.30 chance that workers left due to salary (suppose this is event A i.e.,P(A)=0.30), 20%=0.2 due to work assignment (suppose this is event B i.e.,P(B)=0.20) and due to both salary & work assignment is 12%=0.12 (this event will be P(A and B)=0.12 .we know that
P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) -- P(A and B)
= 0.30 + 0.20 -- 0.12
P(A or B) = 0.38
Hence, the probability that workers left either salary or work assignment is 0.38 ,so option (d) is correct answer
