What are the different types of control charts that are available to monitor a process?

Answer #1

There are various control charts that are available to monitor a process. Some of them are explained as followed :

  • p - chart: This is used for the observation of fraction of nonconfirmations within one subgroup. The nonconfirmations are nothing but the number of non confirming units in a sample size of n.
  • c - chart: This is used for the observation of number of non confirmances within one subgroup. Note that here the number of non confirmanes are observed not the proportion.
  • U- chart: This is used to observe the non conformances per unit within one subgroup.
  • and R chart: This is used to monitor variables from a time series kind of a data where the data is collected at a regular intervals of time.
  • Regression control chart: This is used to monitor a change in a process where two or more number of variables are correlated.

Honda uses statistical process control to monitor and improve a variety of processes. Employees collect data, and then analyze it using statistical process control charts. They can make adjustments if needed. The statistical process control charts enable workers to understand precisely how processes are working and anticipate problems before they occur. One interesting use is in monitoring the effort required to close a door. Honda monitors the speed of the door required to make it latch by using a special...

Using Control Charts for Improving Healthcare Quality The National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom makes extensive use of SPC charts to improve service delivery to patients. SPC charts are frequently developed using Excel spreadsheets. Employees throughout NHS attend a two-day training course where they learn about X- and R-charts and their application. They also learn about Deming’s 14 points and principles of quality management and how to improve processes in their own operation. The number of possible applications...

We use statistical process control charts to get a better handle on the variation in our data. These tools make the process performance visible; determine if the improvement is significant; and determine if the improvement is maintained over time. For this assignment, we will explore a run chart. Discuss what a run chart is. What type of data can be used with this tool? What are the steps used to analyze a run chart? Identify and discuss the four run...
