Here are the population parameters of the bears: ?=207.6 ??? ?=96.6 ???
In the habitat of our bears is a very deep and steep canyon that
is spanned by a single log of length 6 feet and width of 2 feet.
The bears can use the log to transverse the canyon. The load limit
of the log (unknown to the bears) is 260 pounds. Draw Diagrams, as
always.
a) Find the probability that a single randomly selected bear weighs
more than 260 pounds.
b) Find the probability that a random sample of 8 bears has a mean
weight greater than 260 pounds. Also, what assumption(s) are you
making that insures your answer to this problem has validity.
c) Which of the results, part (a) or part (b) should concern the
bears that cross the log? Why?
