According to my understanding , Matt here is talking about of efficiency and clarity both are important in coding and in field of data science. However one can face some issues interefering the clarity because of some practical limitations.

Yes i believe these approaches can help one in the the field of data science as one will try to make things with clarity and efficiency as far as possible, which will help in growth and wil give one a better ability to see a problem in every angle possible and address the angles.
