Hypothesis Test Example For Proportions:

What proportion of people do not drink alcohol? You believe that the proportion of people in the U.S.A. who do not drink is less than 15%. To determine if you are correct, you take a SRS of 400 U.S. residents, and find the proportion of people who do not drink in your sample is 0.22. Conduct a hypothesis test at the 5% significance level.

A). Write the hypotheses for the test.

B). Check the assumptions for the test. There are two assumptions you must test.

C). What is the z-crit value? Round your answer to 2 decimal places. Include the correct sign.

D). Calculate the value of the test statistic z-calc. Round your answer to 2 decimal places.

E). Do you reject or fail to reject the null?

F). Write the conclusion. State the significance level in the conclusion.

G). Increasing sample size while holding the confidence level constant will increase the width of the confidence interval.

Group of answer choices. Is this true or false?

H). Increasing the confidence level while holding the sample size constant will increase the width of a confidence interval.

Group of answer choices. Is this true or false?

Survey 40 people and ask them this question: “What is your favorite soft drink?” You record your results and realize that 10 of those people chose Dr. Pepper. You calculated your sample proportion for the 10 individuals who chose Dr. Pepper, and standard error. The following are your results: Proportion: 0.25 Standard Error: 0.0684 You then ask a friend what percentage of people do you think would say that Dr. Pepper is their favorite soft drink? 4) Which of the following is a FALSE statement regarding the calculation of confidence intervals? Group of answer choices You can utilize the sample proportion to estimate the standard error. You need to verify that the conditions for the use of the normal model are met. You need a prior estimate of the population proportion to calculate the standard error. Increasing the level of confidence will increase the width of the confidence interval.
