30 heating units designed for use in NASA space shuttles normally operate for 1500 hours each. Three units failed a trip. The first one failed after 400 hours. The second one failed after 500 hours. The third one failed after 850 hours. What is the MTBF?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) is given by:

= T/R,

where

T = Total time = (27 X 1500) + 400 + 500 + 850

                       = 42250

N =Number of failures = 3

Substituting, we get:
= 42250/3

         = 14083.3333

So,

Answer is:

14083.3333
