Ok people listen up. The world has descended into total chaos and you now live under the the screws of a brutal warlord named Evil Bob. Evil Bob requires that every person, upon turning 18 years old, participate in "The GamesTM". You have two options to choose from when it comes to "The GamesTM". You can choose Game 1 or Game 2.
This is all you know:
1000 players have died playing Game 1.
100,000 players have died playing Game 2.
You are required to choose between Game 1 and Game 2.
1) Knowing only this information which game would you choose?
2) Suppose you could ask the Evil Bob one question about "The GamesTM". What would it be? I need you thinking statistically about this. Questions about the actual nature of "The GamesTM" itself are not what I'm looking for.
1) Knowing only this I would choose Game 1 because lesser people have died playing it
2) The question I would ask Evil Bob is
How many people have played Game 1 and how many people have played Game 2?
Knowing this data, I will be able to make a relative comparison of success rate in playing the two games and make a much more statistically relevant decision about which game to play
For ex, if 1250 people have played Game 1 and 1 million people have played Game 2, then my decision in part 1 of problem wold change, because Game 1 has a much lower 20% success rate as against 90% for Game 2
