Answer #1

(i)

Probability Sampling is a sampling technique wherein the samples are selected in a process that gives all the individuals in the population equal chances of being selected. The researcher gaurentees that every individual has an equal opportunity for selection. This is achieved by randomization. In order to have a random selection mthod, the researcher must set up some procedure that assures that the different units in the population have equal probabilities of being chosen.

(ii)

The purpose of Probability Sampling is to eliminate both systematic and sampling bias, thus making the sample true representative of the entire population. The advantages of Probability Sampling are: (i) Higher level of reliability of research findings, (ii) Increased accuracy of sampling errorestimation (iii) The possibility to make inferences about the population.

According to Basic Concepts of Sampling (n.d.) the purpose of sampling is to provide various types of statistical information that is qualitative or quantitative in nature about the whole group by examining a few selected units. The sampling method on the other hand is the scientific procedure of selecting those sample units which would provide the required estimates with associated margins of uncertainty (Basic Concepts of Sampling). What do you see as the advantages and disadvantageous of sampling?

Sampling is the process or technique of selecting a suitable sample for the purpose of determining the parameters or characteristics of the whole population. To carry out a study, one might bear in mind what size the sample should be, and whether the size is statistically justified and lastly, what method of sampling is to be used. Analyze any TWO (2) differences between stratified random sampling and cluster sampling.
