Data was gathered on 29 people to investigate the relationship between age (x) and Systolic Blood Pressure (y). The scatter plot and Summary Statistics are shown below. a) Use the scatterplot and Summary Statistics to describe the direction and strength of the relationship between Age and Systolic Blood Pressure, referencing the appropriate statistic. b) What is the regression equation for predicting Systolic Blood Pressure from Age? c) What are the Null and Alternate hypotheses for testing whether there is a significant relationship between Age and Systolic Blood Pressure? d) i) How much of the variation in Systolic Blood Pressure is explained by this regression model? ii)) Is it reasonable to use this regression equation to predict Systolic Blood Pressure from the Age?

Answer #1

in your questions thewwas no data or summary statistics so i have posted te general theory of linear regression..

for question c)

test H0:r=0 vs H1:r not equal to 0

100*r² % of total variation of sbp is explainedby the model..

last part can't be answered as the value of r is not known..

please rate with thumbs up..

Data was gathered on 29 people to investigate the relationship between age (x) and Systolic Blood Pressure (y). The scatter plot and Summary Statistics are shown below. Use the scatterplot and Summary Statistics to describe the direction and strength of the relationship between Age and Systolic Blood Pressure, referencing the appropriate statistic. The graph is positive linear as it is going upwards where it also provides a correlation of 0.844 this shows a strong relationship between age and systolic pressure...

A researcher wants to investigate a connection between systolic blood pressure and body type to see if those with different body types had different systolic blood pressures on average. Body type is a categorical variable with levels 0 = Normal, 1 = Overweight, and 2 = Obese. Why should the researcher not use two-sample t-tests to see what the differences are between the means of these three groups?
