Old Billie and her son Hadey are arguing about how much time their fellow goats spend listening to music each day. Old Billie contends that the goats spend between 0 and 80 minutes each day listening to music, and she insists that no range of times is any more likely than any other. Hadey argues that it doesn’t make sense to believe that goats are just as likely to spend more than two hours listening to music as they are to spend between 30 and fifty minutes and proposes a normal distribution instead. 1. Describe the population and the variable they are talking about. Be as detailed as possible. 2. Describe the distribution that Old Billie is conjecturing in detail, including a graph AND a density function. 3. Supposing that Hadey’s claimed distribution has the same mean and standard deviation as Old Billie’s, describe it in detail as well, including a thorough graph. 4. According to Old Billie’s conjecture, what is the probability that a random goat spends more than two hours listening to music in a day? 5. According to Hadey’s conjecture, what is the probability that a random goat spends more than two hours listening to music in a day? 6. According to Old Billie’s conjecture, what would be the 95th percentile of the amount of time the goats spend listening to music in a day? 7. According to Hadey’s conjecture, what would be the 95th percentile of the amount of time the goats spend listening to music in a day?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ American Time Use Survey showed that the amount of time spent using a computer for leisure varied greatly by age. Individuals age 75 and over averaged 0.25 hour (15 minutes) per day using a computer for leisure. Individuals ages 15 to 19 spend 0.9 hour per day using a computer for leisure. If these times follow an exponential distribution, find the proportion of each group that spends: Less than 14 minutes per day using a...
