(a) EXPERIMENTS FOR WHICH YOU MIGHT WANT A LOWER ALPHA LEVEL (e.g., 0.01):

In experiments involving as serious as safety, we want to be as accurate as posible, we want a lower level (e.g., 0.01).

(b) SITUATIONS IN WHICH YOU MIGHT ACCEPT A HIGHER LEVEL (e.g., 0.1):

For other non-serious situations, where we do not want to be very accurate: For example: yoy are experiment on whether your friends prefer pizza with or without pepperoni: you ould use a higher level of (e.g., 0.1) because it is not as serious.
