a) The researcher actually trying to conclude that how the finnancial incentive can encourage employees to stop smoking rather than simply asking or were simply encouraged by vocal means, hence by statistically measuring the rate of quit of smoking by employees by randomly slecting a sample of 439 each and one 439 were subjected to simple encouragement technique and rest were given a incentive of $750 to quit smoking.

b) From the above given detail e can say that a total no of employees were 439+439= 878 is the population of the research and a sample of 439 and 439 were used for research in different ways hence 439 used in each category is the sample.
