The engineering division of Santa’s North Pole operation is trying to determine the amount of sleigh fuel required for this year’s Christmas Eve journey. This fuel requirement can be determined by simply analyzing the average weight of a Christmas present. The manufacturing division has stated that this average weight is 2.5 lb and the standard deviation in present weight is 0.4 lb.

The engineering division has accepted the stated value of the standard deviation, but they wish to perform a test on the mean. As a result, they have formulated the following hypothesis test, where μ denotes the average weight of a Christmas present.

The engineering division wants to perform the test using a level of significance of 0.025.

If we want the error in estimating the mean to be 0.18 pounds or less, what sample size should we have used to construct the confidence interval?  (The z value that you use should include at least three decimal places)
