Can you please explain the Null Hypotheses to me in laymans terms? I understand it is a term used to say we do not believe something is not true?
In layman's term, the Null Hypothesis H0 is what we expect to happen before we run an experiment. The idea is that if the results do not reject the null hypothesis H0, then we are not finding anything new. The Null Hypothesis H0 is: "No change" or "No difference". For example, if our experiment is to find out whether a coin is biased or not, Null Hypothesis H0 is: The coin is not biased. i.e., p = 0.5.
If the experiment is to see if either boys or girls get good marks in the examination, the Null Hypothesis H0 is boys and girls both equally get good marks in the examination.
