It is recommended that people should exercise at least 60 minutes per week to lower various health risks. A random sample of 30 cardiovascular technicians gave a mean exercise time of 51.50 minutes per week and standard deviation of 25.68 minutes per week. Can we conclude that cardiovascular technicians exercises at least 60 minutes per week? Use α = 0.05 and assume normality.

Answer #1

Step 1:

Ho : ≥ 60 (claim)

Ha:   <  60

Step 2: test statistcis

n = 30

sample mean = 51.50

sample sd = 25.68

Assuming data is normally distributed and also as popuation sd is not given we will use t stat

t = -1.813

Step 3:

df = 29

alpha = 0.05

t critical for left tailed test = - 1.699

As the t stat falls in the rejection area, we reject the Null hypothesis.

Hence we have sufficient evidence to believe that cardiovascular technicians exercises do not excercise at least 60 minutes per week
