to conduct a analysis of variance on a randomized complete block design a researcher would

Answer #1

If the experimental area is not homogeneous and variability is in only one direction then simple method of controlling variability of experimental material consists in grouping the whole area into relatively homogeneous sub groups perpendicular to direction of variability. Now if the treatments are applied at random to relatively homogeneous units within subgroup and replicated over all the blocks the design is a Randomised complete block design.

If in an RBD a single observation is made on each of the experimental units, then its analysis is analogous to ANOVA for fixed effect model for a two way classified data with one observation per cell.

All the treatments are to be applied within each block,

In each block we take as many units as the number of treatments.

A randomized block design was used to study the amount of grants awarded to students at a large university. One block consisted of undergraduate students and the other block consisted of graduate students. Samples of 30 were taken from each block. Could the combined sample of 60 be considered a simple random sample from the population of all students, undergraduate and all graduate, at the university? Explain.
