Suppose the true proportion of voters in the county who support a new fire district is 0.61. Consider the sampling distribution for the proportion of supporters with sample size n = 136.

What is the mean of this distribution?

What is the standard deviation of this distribution?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution

Given that,

p = 0.61

1 - p = 1 - 0.61 = 0.39

n = 136

The mean of the sampling distribution of proportion is ,

= p = 0.61

The standard deviation of the sampling distribution is ,

=  p ( 1 - p ) / n

=   (0.61 * 0.39) / 136 = 0.0418

= 0.0418
