Would it be reasonable to claim that human lifespans are well approximated by an exponential distribution? Why or why not
Yes, it would be reasonable to claim that human lifespans are well approximated by an exponential distribution. Because for a random variable which is exponentially distributed, the probability density function is such that it assigns larger probabilities to smaller values of lifespans compared to larger values. This is exactly the phenomenon we observe in actual life. There is less ans less chance of a person living for larger number of years. There are only few people who live for say more than 90 years, whereas relatively there will be more people who live for more than 60 years.
