If X~N, p( X > 10) is .16 and the mean of X is 5, what is the SD of X ?

Answer #1

Solution:-

Given that,

mean = = 5

x = 10

Using standard normal table,

P(Z > z) = 0.16

= 1 - P(Z < z) = 0.16

= P(Z < z) = 1 - 0.16

= P(Z < z ) = 0.84

= P(Z < 1.0 ) = 0.84

z = 1.0

Using z-score formula,

x = z * +

10 = 1.0 * + 5

= 10 - 5 / 1.0

= 5
