Which hypothesis test do I use for this statement?

It is believed that the blue team is 3 inches taller than the red team. (for my data, in one column i have their heights and team color in another column)

For my null and alternative hypothesis, how do I find those?

I was thinking take the difference of the means since we are testing whether one team is 3 inches taller? For example, null is u1-u2= 0, alternative is u1-u2= 3? I don't know, I can not find a test that does differences of means like this though. Please help, thank you (options: 1 proportion z-test, 1 sample t-test, paired t-test, 2 sample t-test, 2 proportion z test, chi square test for goodness of fit, chi square test for homogeneity, test for regression slope, or is it something else not on this list?) Thanks again

Hi ! You are correct in understanding that we shall use the test for difference of means and the corresponding test would be 2 sample t-test.

Two Sample t-test states the Null Hypothesis that the significant difference in the mean heights of blue and red teams at most 3 inches i.e

and the Alternative Hypothesis is that the mean height of blue team is greater than the mean height of red team by 3 inches i.e.

This become Right-Tailed t-test for 2 independent samples.

“Assuming the null hypothesis is true, the expected value of every test statistic we have seen this semester, whether it is a z, t, or chi-square test statistic, is 0.” One of your friends says the above statement. Respond to this statement. In your response, include, 1) For z tests about population proportions: what is the distribution and the corresponding expected value of a z test statistic under the null. 2) For t tests about population means: what is the...

Team SASK is studying distractions while driving. They watched people driving, and recorded any distractions they saw. If someone had more than one distraction, they recorded that fact. They will analyze each distraction separately. For each, they want to know how common each distraction is. * What hypothesis test and/or confidence interval can you use for this? For the following experiment/question, pick the most appropriate statistical test. You have the following statistical tests as choices: some may be used more than once, others not at all.  Assume homogeneity of variance (where applicable) and the validity of parametric tests (where applicable), unless something is directly stated (e.g., “the data are not at all normal”) or otherwise indicated (viz., by the inspection of the data) which would indicate a strong and obvious violation of an assumption. This means you must...
