Total blood cholesterol levels was measured for each of 9 adults. Here are the 9 measurements (in my LDL):
142, 258, 150, 217, 258, 150, 150 , 258, 228,
Find the mean and median round to one decimal places, the mode

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1) Finding the mean: -

Mean = (Sum of all the data point values)/( Number of data points)

Mean rounded = 201.2

2) First the data has to be sorted in ascending order and then the central value ( 5th position in this case) has to be chosen.

The median is = 217.0

3) the mode is the data value with highest frequency( the one which occurs the most in the list)

Both 150 and 258 occur 3 times which is the highest occurence number among all data points.

Hence Mode= 150 and 258

A study examined the effect of garlic on blood cholesterol levels. A total of 192 subjects with starting LDL (“bad cholesterol”) levels between 130 and 190 mg/dl were randomly assigned to one of four treatments for six months: raw garlic eaten daily, a powdered garlic supplement taken daily (Garlicin brand), an aged-garlic extract taken daily (Kyolic brand), or a placebo pill taken daily.
