A store has different shelves of stock of different kind of products.

1. Independent sample

Let us assume we want to check which if the shelf contribute different amount in sales or the same for the store in a month.

To check this one should take daily sales of each shelves and compare the averages of sales of shelves with each other to check if one shelf contribute more in sales than other or not.

2. Dependent sample

Let us assume to increase the sales the shopkeeper offers a discount and now wants to determine if the increase in sales of store.

To check this one should compare the average sale of each shelf with increased sales during discount and one can check how much is the effect of discount on each shelf. Whether it has increased the overall sales or not and whether the increase in each shelf is same or not.
