How are related samples different from independent samples?
Samples are independent if members of one sample are unrelated to members of the other sample. Sample A and Sample B are independent if the members of each are unrelated. Choosing someone for Sample A in no way affects who goes in Sample B, and vice-versa.
Suppose,if we try to compare the temperature rises in Gujrat and Kolkata, the two samples would be unrelated.
On the contrary, samples are related if choosing one member for a sample automatically decides a corresponding member of the other sample. Here, corresponding members are related in some way or other.
For example,if we try to collect info about the difference in age of couples, then we may consider a sample of 50 families, and obtain the ages of husbands and wives. Here, the sample is related because if one husband goes into the first sample, then the wife automatically goes into the second.
