I am doing a research paper where I am comparing the variables: participants highest degree with quality of life. I'm pulling data from GSS for the data. What is the best method and analysis test to use? Would i use Chi-Square? What would my hypothesis and alternative hypothesis be? Participants having a college degree increases quality of life and Participants having a degree has no effect on quality of life?
The best method to analyze the test would be to use the Chi-square test of independence.
Your Null hypothesis would be: There is no significant association between the participant's highest degree and the quality of life i.e. the two attributes are independent of each other.
On the other hand, the alternative hypothesis would be: There is a significant association between the participant's highest degree and the quality of life i.e. the two attributes are not independent.
Using this test we calculate the test statistic of chi-square test of independence and reject the null hypothesis if the calculated test statistic value is greater the tabulated critical value of the chisquare.
