Question

I have two columns L1 and L2. I need to find the mean and standard deviation for both. I was instructed to go to STAT, CALC, 1, and place a comma between L1 and L2. when I press the comma, I get the letter ”J” I did not touch the green button to make this happen. Why is my TI84 doing this? I get a comma every other time I press the comma button. Still a bit new to this equipment.

Okay, I see what you are trying to say. I am not sure why you are told to put a comma but you don't need to do that.

Go to STAT, EDIT.

Just input a value and press ENTER to add another value. Enter all the values in L1 like that and then use the arrow key to go the next column L2. Now, input all the values hitting ENTER instead of a comma. Now, press 2nd and press MODE. Then you can find the mean and standard deviation for both by going to STAT, CALC, 1.
