**Question 4**

What are some of the assumption to use to determine a confidence interval for the population mean with an unknown standard deviation? Provide examples.

**Question 5**

Define the confidence interval for a population proportion and indicate how it is estimated with an example.

**Question 6**

What are the factors that determine the sample size? How is sample size calculated for estimating the population mean? Provide examples.

Answer #1

Question4:

When population standard deviation is unknown then we need to use t-confidence interval.

Assumptions are:

Eiether populaiton should be normally distributed or sample size should be atleast 30 to apply CLT.

The sample should be simple random sample from population.

Obervations should be independent.

For eaxmple:

Suppose we have

And let it is given that populaiton is normally distributed.

Since there 16 data values in the sample so degree of freedom is df=16-1=15 and critical value of t for 95% confidence interval, using excel function "=TINV(0.05,15)" is 2.131.

The required confidence interval is

Therefore, a 95% confidence interval for the mean is (24.19, 27.81).

Question 6
What is the standard error of the mean? Provide examples.

please provide detailed explanation for each part of the
question.
We are interested in estimating the mean systolic blood pressure
for female diabetics between the ages of 30 and 34. For the
purposes of this question you may assume that blood pressure in
this population has a normal distribution.
a. A random sample of 10 women is selected from this population.
The average systolic blood pressure in this sample is 130 mmHg. The
sample standard deviation is 9.2 mmHg. Calculate...

QUESTION 2
(a) Suppose that your task is to estimate the mean of a normally
distributed population to within 8 units with 95% confidence and
that the population standard deviation is known to be 72. What
sample size should be used if you wish to estimate the population
mean to within 8 units?
(b) Determine the minimum sample size required for estimating the
population proportion of number of people who drive to work, to...

Use the GSS dataset to answer the questions below. All analysis
must be completed using your own GSS data set. Failure to use your
own GSS data set will result in a zero for the question. As above,
you will need to read and interpret the question to determine which
statistical test is appropriate, as well as whether it is a
one-tailed or two-tailed test. Similar to the questions above, you
must: 1. State the null and research hypotheses 2....

QUESTION 1: You are curious about the average number of
yards Matthew Stafford throws for each game for the Detroit Lions.
You randomly select 30 games and see that the average yards per
game is 269.1 with a standard deviation of 27.31 yards. You want to
create a 90% confidence interval for the true average number of
yards per game he throws. What is the margin of error for this
estimate?
QUESTION 2: You...

A sample survey asked a random sample of 1498 adult Canadians,
“Do you agree or disagree that all firearms should be registered?”
Of the 1498 people in the sample, 1282 answered either “Agree
strongly” or “Agree somewhat.” Assuming this survey can be
considered an SRS of all adult Canadians, what is the proportion of
all Canadians who agree (as described) that all firearms should be
registered?
Your solution must include the following parts, in order. Point
form is fine.
