State wheter you think the differents between what occurred and what you would expect by chance is statistically significant
an airline with a 95% on- time departure rate has 11 out of 200 flights with late depatures

Homework Answers

Answer #1

It is given that 11 out of 200 flights are with late departures.

Then in order to find the 95% confidence interval we will use binomial proportion

here x = 11

n = 200

So 95% CI is given by:

where

and

is the critical value of standard normal distribution.

substituting values in the above equation we get CI

which suggests that if we draw 100 samples then 95 samples out of them have proportion between above given interval.

i.e., is the 95% confident that proportion of late departures lies in this interval.

Statistical significance (alpha level; p-value) reflects the odds that a particular finding could have occurred by chance. If the p-value for a difference between two groups is 0.05, it would be expected to occur by chance just 5 times out of 100 (thus, it is likely to be a “real” difference). We define a p-value of less than 0.05 to indicate statistical significance. Suppose a pizza place claims their delivery times are 30 minutes or less on average but you...

1. r = -.85 and p<.05 between employment and GPA. What would you conclude from these results? a. There is a strong negative and statistically significant correlation between employment and GPA among college students. This means that students who work more tend to have lower GPA and vice versa, to small extent. b. There is a moderate negative and statistically significant correlation between employment and GPA among college students. This means that students who work more tend to have higher...

State how you would respond to the following student posts in a discussion on how to interpret a 95% confidence interval for a population mean. One student posted their interpretation as “There is a 95% chance that this population mean will fall inside the confidence interval.” Another student responded to this post with “I don’t think that your interpretation is correct. The population mean is a fixed value. There is no chance involved. The population mean either falls inside the...
