This file contains data on the crime rates (total and violent) and population. Using Excel or other software of your choice, for each of the following pairs make a ScatterPlot then determine the Correlation Coefficient:

(3pts) Crime Rate and Population

(3pts) Violent Crime Rate and Population

(3pts) Crime Rate and Population Density (that’s the Number of people Per square mileHint: You need to compute this last one on your own using data in the table.)

Copy and paste each scatter plot into your Word Document. Give each value of r.

(1pt) In a short well-written paragraph, explain what can be concluded from these correlations and absences of correlation.

Answer #1

Correlation =

-0.195615544

Correlation =

-0.482988583

Correlation =

-0.332225048

In all the above three correlations, all are negative. It means if one will increase then other will decrease. Population and Violent Crime Rate has a negative correlation of -0.19 which is very less. It means you can not say anything about the population based on the Violent Crime Rate. The almost same situation is with density and Crime rate While the crime rate and population has a negative correlation of -0.48. i.e. there is a inverse relationship between these two.
