How do I draw 5 random samples of sizes 50, 100,250 and 500 on excel.

Additional context: The random samples come from a population I already have. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!

Answer #1

Let us consider you have a population lets say in column X.

  1. Now create a new column with the name random.
  2. now in the first cell in the column random use function '=RAND()' and press enter. This will generate a random number between 0 to 1
  3. Now drag that cell to the corresponding last cell of column X.
  4. Now copy and paste column random in the another column because each time you refresh the page the values in random column will get change. So, to avoid this we do copy paste.
  5. Now select both the columns X and random and click on data option in the toolbar. Then click on sort.
  6. Then a dialog box will appear. Then in the sort by, select random and click ok.
  7. Now this will generate your data in the random order. So. now select the samples of size ,50,100,250 and 500.

I am trying to figure out how to find the test statistic using Excel. I understand the formula- that I need to use parameter 'p' and 'normal distribution' ….z= sample proportion and minus the 'population portion' then we divide p*q and divide n -sample size. The following question is from Elementary Statistics in Social Research: The Scholastic Assessment Test is standardized to have population mean u=500 and a population standard deviation 0=100. Suppose that a researcher gives the SAT to a random sample of 50 males and 50 females, yielding sample means of 511 and 541 respectively. Based on these samples' sizes the researcher has already calculated the true standard deviation of the sampling distribution of the difference between mean to be 20. Based on...
