  1. Reject the null hypothesis. The calculated F is larger than the critical value.
  2. Fail to reject the null hypothesis. The calculated F is smaller than the critical value.
  3. Fail to reject the null hypothesis. The calculated F is larger than the critical value.
  4. Reject the null hypothesis. The calculated F is smaller than the critical value.

Answer #1

Solution:

Mean Sum of squares between- groups =

SS between groups/ 2 = 100/2= 50

Mean Sum of Squares within groups(Error) = SSE/42= 50/42= 1.1905

Variance Ratio F= MSS between groups/ MSE = 50/1.1905 = 41.999

Critical value: Tabulated F 0. 05 for 2 and 42 d. f is 3.22

Since calculated F > tabulated F at 0.05 level of significance, Reject Null hypothesis.

Option a) is correct. Reject the null hypothesis. The calculated F is larger than the critical value.

Option c) F can be interpreted as the proportion of variance in the dependent variable that is accounted for by the independent variable.
