Describe the type of sample selection bias that would result from the sampling method.
A researcher wants to determine the average size of farms in a county in Nebraska. He randomly throws darts at a map of the county and uses the farms hit as the sample.

Homework Answers

Answer #1
  1. The farms selected in the sample will be the ones the darts have hit.
  2. It is possible that the researcher unintentionally hits the map at certain regions while some region remain completely unexplored.
  3. This method would thus select farms from a particular area of the county. The will lead to 'sampling bias'.
  4. Also, as it is up to the researcher as to where to hit the map, the would lead to 'personal bias'.

Hope this was helpful. Please leave back any comment.
