1. The ANOVA table below represents analysis of data from a field study of the response of a certain crop’s varieties to field conditions. Sources of variation df SS MS F Rows 4 74.49 18.62 Columns 4 44.17 11.04 Varieties 4 947.14 236.78 8.87 Error 12 320.09 26.66 Total 24 1385.91
(a) What type of design was used here? (b) Write an appropriate null hypothesis for the study. (c) Was the use of the design justified? (d) If the answer to the above is no state why not. (e) Suggest an alternative design and justify your choice.
Soln. 1-
Here, the design used is "Latin Square Design"
Soln 2 -
The hypothesis that could be made here are
1) On Average, measured value is same for different crop's varaieties.
2) On Average, measured value is same for different field Conditions.
3) Pooling the Crop Variety, the effect of row field condition is same for column field condition.
4) Pooling the field condition, the effect of row crop Varietey is same for column Crop Variety.
5) There is no interaction among all the factors here.
Soln. 3 - No
Soln 4 -
As we can use here RBD Model as diffrentiating row and column for same factor doesn't justify anything.
Soln 5-
