In what situations do you think the mode would be a useful measure of central tendency?

Answer #1

Mode is a useful measure of central tendency in the following scenarios:

  • When we have to know the most common observation. The mode can be used with categorical, ordinal, and discrete data.
  • Categorical data - such as the most preferred color, or most preferred destination to go to for a group of friends. It will provide you with the most common choice made by the crowd among the given alternatives. It is the only measure of central tendency which can be used with categorical data.
