A record collection consists of eight rock albums, twelve blues albums, and four classical albums. If two records are chosen random, find the probability that they are both blues?
a) 0.17
b) 0.083
c) 0.239
d) 0.5
Solution:- Since there are 8 rock albums, 12 blue albums and 4 classical albums. So total number of albums is = 8+12+4=24. Now 2 albums are chosen then the total number of ways of choosing 2 albums are 24C2= (24×23)/2 = 276.
Now we have to find the probability that both 2 albums chosen, are blue.So total number of ways tor selecting blue albums are 12C2 = (12×11)/2 = 66.
Hence the required probability = (12C2/24C2) = 66/276 = 0.239.
Hence option 'c' is correct.
