Test the hypothesis using the P-value approach. Be sure to verify the requirements of the test.

Upper H 0: p = 0.7 versus Upper H 1: p > 0.7 = 100; x = 85, alpha equals0.05 Is np 0 left parenthesis 1 minus p 0 right parenthes is greater than or equals 10?

Use technology to find the P-value.

P-valueequals

Homework Answers

Answer #1

n=100, x= 85, =0.05

Ho: P = 0.7

H1: P > 0.7

100 * 0.7 * ( 1 - 0.7) = 21

hence np ( 1 - p) is greater than ( ) 10

hence requirements of the test are verified.

calculate the test statistics

z = 3.2733

test statistics = 3.2733

now calculate p-value using TI-83 calculator we get

P-Value = 0.0005

since ( P-Value = 0.0005) < ( =0.05)

Null hypothesis is rejected.
