Heading east from New York, a surveyor measures the altitude above sea level once per every 10 horizontal miles traveled. She ends up taking 60 measurements; the mean of these 60 numbers being µ and the  standard deviation being σ. Someone else then creates a box model whose box average is µ and whose box SD is σ. Is this box a good stochastic model for the surveyor’s experiment? Explain.

Answer #1

The mean of certain value will provide the central tendancy of the the data and the Standard deviation will give how much the values are dispersed from the central value. Both these values do not take care of any outliers, means skewness in a data, which is not taken care by the normal mean and SD , but the box model mean and SD will take care of these outliers

A box model mean and SD are coming as same as normal mean and SD sows that the data collected is less skewed and tending towards symmetric about the central values.

It is the process of listing all the tickets in a box and drawing randomly, it depends on the number of draws as well as with replacement or without replacement of the tickets
