  1. A flower shop wishes to add the valuable Waimea orchid to its product list. They purchase a large shipment of bulbs from a supplier in Kauai. It is established by Mendelian theory that the predominant colors in the Waimea orchid (blue, red, violet, orange) will occur with the ratio of 7:5:4:4.   When the first 60 Waimea orchid bulbs bloom, the predominant colors are 35 blue, 12 red, 7 violet, 6 orange. The florists are concerned that these bulbs are not Waimea orchids, but a more common, less valuable hybrid.
  1. Use Minitab to conduct an appropriate hypothesis test at α = 0.05 to test this. Copy and paste all relevant test output into your paper.
  2. Interpret your results and state your conclusion in terms of the data and the question being studied.

Can you please show your minitab results? Thank you!

Answer #1

7:5:4:4

7+5+4+4 = 20

hence

7/20 = 0.35, 5/20 = 0.25, 4/20 = 0.2 , 0.2

stat -> tables -> chi-square goodness of fit

p-value = 0.002

b)

since p-value is less than alpha

we reject the null hypothesis, we conclude that there is evidence that the given data does not follow same distribution
