Suppose that you want to take a sample of size 8 from the 236 shells that you found at the beach during Spring Break. Assume that there are equal amounts of conch, nautilus, puka, and cowry shells. If you were to divide the shells by type, then choose an SRS of two shells from each group, which type of sampling design would you be using?

Answer #1

Answer : Stratified Random Sampling

In stratified random sampling, population with heterogeneous data is divided into separate groups, called strata such that Items in each group are homogeneous . Then, a simple random sample  is drawn from each group.

For the given problem,

The population contains 4 types of shells , therefore the each type of shell is considered as a strata (group) and a simple random sample of two shells each taken from each group (strata).

Hence the type of sampling design used is Stratified Random Sampling

You really want to accurately gauge the average GPA at each type of college. You want to ensure that you have the same number of participants from each type of college. To select your sample of 1000 students, you compile a list of the names of all the students at 2-year colleges, print each name on a slip of paper and put all the paper slips in a hat. You draw out 500 names. You then compile a list of...

1) Suppose you have a 26 factorial experiment that you want to put into 8 blocks. a. Identify l, where 2l = the number of blocks. b. What is the block size? Remember we have 64 total treatment combinations that we want to partition into 8 blocks of equal size. c. How many effects will we need to confound with blocks? d. Suppose we choose to confound the effects ABC, CDE, and DEF to construct our design. Describe how we...

PART 1: Sampling How we select our sample will directly influence the external validity of the study. If a sample is representative, then our external validity is stronger. If a sample is non-representative, then our external validity is weaker. QUESTIONS: 1. You are interested in looking at the relationship between student-to-teacher ratio and GPA at California 2- and 4-year colleges. You suspect that average GPA is higher at 2-year colleges where student-to-teacher ratio is low, relative to 4-year colleges colleges...

While taking a break from studying, you want to get a glass of ice water. As you fill your glass with ice, one cube falls on the floor. As we are all thinking of cleanliness at this time, you pick it up right away. As you pick it up, it feels cold. You know that a [A] neuron (functional classification) carries an action potential to the [B] cortex of the brain to produce the perception of cold. To walk over...

1.The sample mean is an unbiased estimator for the population mean. This means: The sample mean always equals the population mean. The average sample mean, over all possible samples, equals the population mean. The sample mean will only vary a little from the population mean. The sample mean has a normal distribution. 2.Which of the following statements is CORRECTabout the sampling distribution of the sample mean: The standard error of the sample mean will decrease as the sample size increases....

Point/Counterpoint from chapter 16. Take a stand. Do you agree or disagree? Write a minimum of one paragraph. Chapter 16 The Hierarchical Structure: The Superior Format Point Yes The hierarchy is the enduring foundation for how MNEs optimally arrange the roles, responsibilities, and relationships of its structure for a simple reason—it is the superior format for doing so. It sets a clear chain of command, functional span of control, effective allocation of authority, and precise assignment of tasks. It specifies...

As you saw from the lab PowerPoint slides last week, you will be doing a research study looking at ‘Aggression Priming” for your first paper. For this week’s discussion, I want you to discuss with your group what you think this study is about. What is the hypothesis? What theory does it come from? What do you predict will happen (do you expect something different than the hypothesis in the researcher instructions? If so, what and why?)? Do you think...
