is the amount of money spent on food a discrete or continuous variable? can only be one answer

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: Discrete variable

Explanation:

Whether a variable is discrete or continous is defined based on the method the data values are obtained.

A variable is said to be continuous if its data values are obtained using the mesurement method.

A variable is said to be discrete if its data values are obtained using the counting method such that only the whole number is possible. The amount of money spent is a discrete variable. For example, if the amount of money spent is $12.50 and the smallest unit is cents then the amount of money spent is 1250 cents which is a whole number. The amount od money spent can not have infinite value after decimale.
