Create an example study (can be fictitious) that uses the t-test to see if there is a difference between the means in 2 independent samples. State the H0 and Ha. Describe any variables in the study and the level of measurement.

Answer #1

Two sample t test used when we have two independent sample Ie 2 sample t test.

Example : a company study working hours of male and female in company. There are total 200 total people out of 120 are male with sample mean 23 and sample standard deviation is 8 and 80 of female with sample mean 21 and sample standard deviation is 5 use alpha 5 % level.

claim: in company claim that mean of male work different than mean number of female work hours.

Here sample 1 is male and sample 2 is female

Ho : u1 = u2 vs H1 : u1 not equal to u2

It is two tailed test.

(Similarly we can test as right and left sided test.)

Test statistic = t

We can find p value

Decision :: we can use p value approach we reject Ho if p value is less than alpha value.

Conclusion : it is depend upon the what decision we got.

We are going to study the difference in means of two independent samples. We assume the difference in mean between these two samples 6.0 (assuming: mu1=16 and mu2=10), and the standard deviation (among all patients in two groups) is 10. Our hypothesis is H0: mu1 = mu2 vs Ha: mu1 not equal to mu2. To achieve a power of 80% to test the difference of 6.0, how many patients in total should we recruit? The significance level is 0.05, and...
