The mean rate of arrival at an airport during the peak period is 20 planes per hour. The actual number of arrivals number of arrivals in any hour follows a poisson distribution. The airport can land 60 planes per hour on average in good weather and 30 planes per hour in bad weather. The number landed planes in any hour follows an exponential distribution. When there is congestion, the plane that arrives first, lands first. There is only one landing track in the airport. How long a plane would take to complete all the landing process in bad weather? How long a plane would take to complete all the landing process in good weather? Give the result in minutes Round the result to 1 decimal.

Answer #1

Given Information:

Mean Arrival rate: 20 planes per hour

Mean landing (service) rate in good weather: 60 planes per hour

Mean landing (service) rate: 30 planes per hour

Following formula can be used to calculate the complete landing process:

Ws = Expected to wait time in the system

Time to complete landing in bad weather:

Ws = 1/(30-20) = 0.1 hours = 6 minutes

Time to complete landing in good weather:

Ws = 1/(60-20) =0.025 hours = 1.5 minutes

Air traffic control is essential for the safe landing and departure of plans. You are monitoring a particular airport and observe that the arrival rate of small planes follows a Poisson distribution with an average of 6 small planes arriving per hour. Use this information and answer questions 1 to 4. 1. You decided to spend an hour to observe how many planes arrive. What is the probability that you observe exactly 6 small planes’ arrival? (use 3 decimal places)...

The mean arrival rate of flights at O'Hare Airport in marginal weather is 195 flights per hour with a historical standard deviation of 13 flights. To increase arrivals, a new air traffic control procedure is implemented. In the next 30 days of marginal weather, the mean arrival rate is 200 flights per hour. 210 215 200 189 200 213 202 181 197 199 193 209 215 192 179 196 225 199 196 210 199 188 174 176 202 195 195...

Question 1. AUMexx manufactures tables in its production plant. The plant takes custom orders from clients. Each order is processed in three stations. First, information about the order is passed to Station A where an employee spends 1.5 hours at Station A to create the legs for the custom table. The information about the order and table legs are then transferred to Station B where an employee takes 2.5 hours to create a table top. The order information, legs, and...

The hematology lab manager has been receiving complaints that the turnaround time for blood tests is too long. Data from the past month show that the arrival rate of blood samples to one technician in the lab is five per hour and the service rate is six per hour. To answer the following questions, use queuing theory and assume that both rates are distributed exponentially and that the lab is at a steady state. 6. What is the average time...
